Artist Statement
These paintings were created during an artistic experiment that took place among a group of artists online. The participants began the experiment during the COVID-19 pandemic and were located throughout North America.
The intention of the experiment was to create original pieces of art that emerged from the group consciousness. At the start of each weekly session we shared our present moment feelings and bodily sense, and then went into meditation to deepen our coherence.
After the meditation I would approach the canvas empty of concepts and innocently allow the image to unfold. At least, that was my intention. Some attempts were successful.
We all worked on our own pieces independently for over an hour. We then discussed our own art and shared about how we were impacted emotionally and somatically by seeing each other’s work. These are my versions, as everyone had unique pieces.
Most of the work is about the flow of energy as imagined by the artist. The larger pieces were created from the original works after our sessions.
You, the viewer, are also part of this work. You may take away impressions… feelings… expansiveness… energy….
