During this free online event we will explore the extraordinary relationship between identity and spiritual practice. Who we think we are when we practice has the power to dramatically increase the potential of our practice, or ensure that nothing extraordinary will ever happen.
One of the most important insights I’ve ever had about spiritual practice is that we have the power to be creative about who we choose to be when we practice, and the choice we make has a huge effect on our spiritual growth.
For years I meditated with an identity that saw myself as someone who struggled with the practice and didn’t really know how to let everything be as it is. I was very busy trying to overcome my struggles and learn how to let everything be. In fact, I was so busy that I wasn’t really meditating at all.
One day I decided that I was not going to be the person who struggled any more. Meditation was going to be easy because I was going to be a person who could do it easily. I sat, closed my eyes and something was different. Meditation was easy. The practice itself hadn’t changed, but now I saw myself as someone for whom it was easy.
I had a hard time believing this could be possible. I felt like I was cheating, but as the years unfolded I found myself consistently having deep experiences, and those experiences made me someone that others wanted to talk to and learn from.
I grew steadily happier and more spiritually inspired. I felt like I had discovered the most valuable spiritual secret. This is the secret that I want to share with you during this hour-long call.
On this call we will explore:
- How we tend to hold onto our identity even in our spiritual practice.
- How aspects of our personality will work against our efforts to be free.
- How a new and more powerful identity can be authentically embraced.
- How that powerful identity will propel you into a different level of practice.
Some people may feel that this is not possible. After all we can’t just pretend to be someone else when we meditate. Why can’t we? Why do we have to meditate as the person we have been conditioned to believe we are? Why must we struggle through our self-imposed limitations? Why can’t we take a leap into a higher sense of self?
