Releasing Cultural Conditioning through the Rejuvenation of the Psoas

On Saturday, February 12th, 2022 Susan Kullman will lead a retreat day specifically aimed at liberating us from the cultural conditioning that we inherited from the society we were raised in. Our perception of life has been deeply influenced by culture. We have inherited biases, assumptions and habitual perspectives that largely go unnoticed unless we travel to a different culture. Many people enjoy traveling because it gives them a chance to see the world through a different lens. Some of our cultural attitudes are beneficial, others are not, but none of them are authentically our own unless we can see them and choose to either keep them or let them go.

During this retreat Susan will guide you through a series of exercises designed to nourish and rejuvenate your psoas muscle. The psoas muscle that connects your lower spine to the femur bones of the leg holds our responses to cultural conditioning. Nourishing this area, through gentle movements, will allow us to shift our responses to cultural attitudes and perspectives allowing us the freedom to choose which beliefs we will continue with. This is profoundly deep work.

A Somatic Approach to Awakening
Working with the body from the inside out
The work we do together will be body-centered, but not necessarily in the way you might typically think. The Greek word 'soma' does translate as body, but it has a different connotation than the English counterpart. The word body tends to refer to the physical form, where the Greek word 'soma' refers to the inner experience of embodiment. Somatics can translate as bodywork, but it is not limited to the physical manipulation of the body, it is about exploring and reorienting to the experience of being embodied. It means working with the body from the inside out.
