The Goal of this Retreat

What you will discover on this retreat is that nondual meditation is not really a practice at all. It is simply being and we are being all the time, so meditation is always already happening.

All you need to do is be, just be, and there is no way not to be, so you are always doing it perfectly.

Although being is what we always are, there is something magnificent that occurs when we become present and conscious of the fact that we are - we see that our true self is the awareness of being.

Even when we think we are doing something, we are not. We are never doing anything, we are aware of things happening and assume it is us doing them, but it is not.

When we see ourselves clearly at this depth something miraculous occurs, we simply stop thinking that we are the one doing everything. We stop and for the first time we allow ourselves to rest in our true self.

The release we feel when we stop in this way is unimaginable until it occurs. We all live with a degree of nervous tension that is invisible to us because it has always been there in the background of our life.

When that tension releases everything is different. We feel like we are floating on air. Life unfolds naturally, seemingly without effort.

Experiencing and acclimating to this state of existential freedom is the goal of this retreat.

How We Let Go

The deep freedom that we are speaking about is always already the truth of who we are and yet we don't experience ourselves this miraculous way.

Why not?

The reason we don’t experience our own inherent freedom is because we have certain conditioned ideas about how life works that keep us locked in a paradigm of separation, strenuous effort, and anxiety.

We have learned to see fulfillment as something that we must work for because it exists out there in the future. Even when we sit down to meditate and just let everything be the way it is we find ourselves entangled in effort and not knowing how to stop ourselves from being busy.

In this virtual retreat you will engage with meditation in specific ways designed to cut through some of the most persistent and stubborn obstacles to inner freedom.

As you are able to transcend each of these obstacles you will find yourself carried into greater freedom and ease. And it will gradually become clear that you are resting in the true source of your being - the place where you have always been nothing but the awareness that is aware.

What We Will Explore on this Retreat

Session One:
There is Nothing to Do
11:00am to 11:45am (US Eastern Time)
In our first session we will tackle the deepest and most persistent of obstacles relating to meditation as an activity that you do. We will very specifically explore the wonder of not doing anything. It may sound simple, and it is, but it is not easy to rest in.

Session Two:
You Are Never Lost in Thought
12:00pm to 12:45pm (US Eastern Time)
Meditators will often complain about being lost in thought, but as long as you relate to thought as something you can get lost in, you are not seeing meditation clearly. In this session you will see that having your attention consumed by thought cannot disrupt true meditation.

Session Three:
Sleep is Not a Problem
1:00pm to 1:45pm (US Eastern Time)
Worrying about, and being busy with drowsiness and sleep in meditation is another obstacle. When meditation is understood properly it becomes obvious that even falling asleep is not a disruption to your practice.

Session Four:
There is No Need to Remember
2:00pm to 2:45pm (US Eastern Time)
Most people, whether they realize it or not, assume that you have to remember that you are meditating in order to be meditating. In this session you will discover why this is not the case. In fact forgetting what you are doing and everything about yourself is the whole point.

Session Five:
Nothing Needs to Change
3:00pm to 3:45pm (US Eastern Time)
In the final session we will explore the most subtle meditation insight of them all - the fact that the experience of meditation must be fundamentally different from our ordinary experience. In this session you will discover why this false assumption is the most difficult to transcend.
