“What We All Move In” and “Room for Novelty”

Two Poems

By Dawn Kimble

Dawn Kimble is a member of The Mystery School, an online community of inspired individuals dedicated to spiritual transformation and mutual evolution, and who make many contributions to this magazine.

“What We All Move In”
“If we meet in a place of nonseparation, everything shifts.”
–Elizabeth DeBold

What is this place of nonseparation?
We know from science and spirituality
That it is the fact of the matter
That matter only appears separate

And appearances can be convincingly deceiving.

When I can stop the reaching for better
And fall into being, I notice the dog
Persistently focused on the door,
The spring leaves already silently engaged
In their exquisite dance with the breezes,
The light of a late April afternoon—
All one happening at this moment here.

Even all the things I am unaware of
Are of this one existence.

When Elizabeth Gilbert asked how she could
Open more channels to love, she was told:
Little Raindrop, all streams lead to the sea.
Any path will get you there.

I guess it’s our human conditioning to look
For the quickest path, especially if we’re currently
On a path of pain or confusion, grief or fear.
But you remember, don’t you, the power of being
Met and seen, held by a loving presence
In the midst of whatever is.

That wholeness never left us. We left Her
In our nightmares of separation.
When we return to Love’s presence,
We enable others’ return.

It’s like an infectious, remembered, beloved
Song that we all move in.

“Room for Novelty”
Perhaps everything just
follows from its first cause
like dominoes falling. We move
through the world that we perceive
tracing the dance steps left by others.

But, what moves the pup,
the child? Any new life unfolds
through its inborn wisdom as it
responds to its world. There must
be room for novelty at every juncture.
Witness the endless creative forms
and behaviors throughout time.

In winter, the old forms are composted.
In spring, new life comes into being–
the bunny on my neighbor’s grass,
the love birds at the top of the tree.
Almost every month, I see a new article
about interwoven communications
underground between the rhizomes and
roots and mycorrhizal networks.

Even among us humans with all our
confused abstractions, new words
come into our conversations,
new understandings, new openings,
new loves.

Never surrender your sense of an unseen,
infinitely sourced spring
carrying the clear water of life
through every cell of your being,
every step in your dance of relationships,
every humble release of old dreams
and imagined treasures.

About Dawn Kimble’s Poetry
I have been participating in an online group that gathers for the purpose of writing together. We are in alignment in our intent to listen carefully to what wants to be revealed and to write it down. Then we share it with each other. To be supported in this way has given me trust in the ever-present depth of the moment, any moment. My writings, and often the others' writings, remind me why I'm here and what is really happening. This practice has opened me to the sacred, ever-welcoming nature of the unknown when we are willing to step into a creative process.

I married my high school sweetheart at the end of college, which is now 47 years ago. Mothering became a full-time, immersive experience for me, since we brought two babies into the world in our mid-20's and two more when I was straddling 40. I majored in music and my husband and I recorded a tape in the mid-90's and a CD of original songs in 2009 (Find Your Way Back Home). Six or seven years ago, I began to write poetry, inspired by Jacqueline Suskin who wrote a book called, Everyday Is a Poem. I found a Spontaneous Writing Circle online that supports me in showing up and listening.
