Space – A Hidden Power Within

Writing by Judith Marsden
Alison came to see me for her first ever Tarot reading. She had been referred by another client and from all accounts was curious, though a little apprehensive to hear what the Tarot had to ‘say’ regarding her query.

As an empath I immediately felt an energy of emotional pain surrounding her as she entered my consultation space, and I sensed that I needed to be careful with how I expressed whatever transpired from the cards.

I sat and chatted with Alison for a short while allowing her to get comfortable before I began the reading and then I asked her to pose her query; what was it that she wanted the Tarot to provide guidance for?

Alison asked her question, which was a general query about relationships and how she could better ‘handle’ people.

I shuffled the deck and took a moment to enter the space where I connect with the energies of the Tarot. In essence I ‘emptied the bone’.

Once centered and relaxed I requested the Tarot to provide insight into her query and then I laid out a ten-card spread.

Immediately upon looking at the cards, from an intellectual perspective, I was surprised at what I saw. The cards didn’t seem to connect to her question, in fact they seemed strangely ‘off’. Non the less I began speaking their messages, but Alison was shaking her head at everything the cards were pointing to.

I had a growing sense of discomfort. Either her first ever reading was going to be a complete disappointment or she had an unspoken intention to discredit the Tarot and nothing I shared would ever align!

I felt myself becoming frustrated, years of experience have shown me that the cards don’t lie… I took pause and re-centered and suddenly heard myself blurting out a ‘gnowing’ loud and clear and totally unexpected: ‘but you asked the wrong question’.
Alison began to sob….

One of my favorite guided meditations is the Body Parts, Space meditation by Dr. Joe Dispenza.

At the beginning of the second section in the meditation Dr. Joe Dispenza speaks these words:
‘Now… There is a power within you, that’s giving you light that wants to leak out, which loves you so much, and when your will matches its will, when your mind matches its mind, when your love for life matches its love for you, it always responds. It will move in you, it will begin to move through you, and it will move all around you, and you will see evidence in your life as a result of your efforts…. there is greatness within you.’

I believe this greatness, this power that he is pointing to is available to all of us when we let the body and mind relax sufficiently to get out of our own way and be open to whatever wants to speak through us.

After decades of studying the Tarot, often I will mentally know what a card represents but what I hear from that empty space can be something quite different, maybe a more nuanced version of its meaning or another perspective completely. The exciting part is that when I remain unattached in this way the message is always on point for the querrant.

So, what is this space and how to describe it…?

To empty the bone means a hollowing out, putting aside the material world as much as possible. A stepping away from personal agendas, drives, beliefs, and preconceptions, so that the healing spirits and our higher self can communicate and work through us without anything getting in the way.

For me to access this power, this greatness that Dr. Joe Dispenza refers to could be described as a blank, black canvas of open space where I float… From there it offers itself through silent voices, unseen vivid images, impulses of speech, and sometimes an actual feeling of a physical tap on the shoulder.

It is a space within, that pulses, to express without.

I’ve learned to welcome these gnowings, they facilitate a higher awareness in my abilities to connect with my clients. A space where I can listen for what the cards want to express.

Alison was amazed that the Tarot could ‘hear’ her unspoken thoughts, and that the cards were not going to allow her to gaslight her own reason for coming to consult them in the first place!

For her the ten-card spread that had made absolutely no sense regarding the query about relationships was in complete alignment when she finally confided her true question. It also explained why I had sensed an energy of emotional pain surrounding her as she entered my consultation space as this true question was quite frightening for her to speak aloud being extremely sensitive and personal.

Yet Alison did finally ask what was on her mind and in return the reading not only diminished her fear but also inspired her to make important changes that have helped her to this day.

So yes, ‘there is a power within you, that’s giving you light, that wants to leak out…’

However, we currently live in the consensus trance that nothing is real unless it can be weighed or measured. To hear silent voices or to see unseen images is generally dismissed as fancy or delusion. Skeptics the world over buy into this paradigm, the Tarot often represented by Hollywood or the church as a form of negative satanic worship!

Unfortunately, I believe this perspective to be a limitation to our human potential and to our life experience. It diminishes our greatness; it diminishes our power, and it creates fear of expression.

So… a call to action – let’s begin changing the consensus trance, let’s get out of our way. Sit still, be quiet, empty the bone and be amazed at how we can… in Dr. Joe Dispenza’s words:

‘To be greater than your environment, to be greater than the conditions in your life, to be greater than the feelings that are memorized in your body, to think greater than the body, to be greater than time means… that you’re tugging on the garment of the divine. Your destiny then, is the reflection of a co-creation with a greater mind. We are creators. We are divine. Love yourself enough to do this, there is greatness within you.’
